Biodata for second marriage: how to write it for divorcees and widowed
A biodata for a second marriage has one extra job: to state marital status clearly and without awkwardness, so the right families respond and the wrong ones do not waste your time. Here is exactly how to word it, what to include about children, and what to keep out.
- State marital status clearly in the first section — never hide it.
- Write the fact, not the story: status and year, no reasons.
- Mention children with age and who they live with.
- Say in preferences that you welcome divorcee or widowed proposals, if you do.
Why clarity helps you
Some people worry that stating “divorced” up front will reduce responses. In practice, it does the opposite for the responses that matter. Families who are open to a second marriage look for it; families who are not would find out anyway, only later and more painfully. Putting it clearly in the first section saves everyone time and shows confidence.

Many families prefer to consider proposals only once a divorce is final, so if yours is still in progress, say so honestly and include the expected timeline.

If you have children, mention them in the personal details section in one line. Include age and who they live with, and nothing more personal than that.

Should you give a reason?
No. A biodata is not the place for it. If a family is interested, the question will come up in conversation, and it is far better answered in person. Writing a reason on the page invites judgement from people who do not know you, and it gets forwarded. A line like “Divorced (2024)” is complete on its own.
