Marriage biodata for government employee: how to write post, pay and posting
“Government job” on a biodata tells a family almost nothing — a clerk, a teacher, a doctor and a Deputy Collector all fit those two words. A good marriage biodata for government employee candidates states the post, department, pay and posting clearly, and is honest about transfers. Here is how to write each, with a full sample.
- Write the designation, department, and whether it is central or state government.
- Give a pay level if you like, but add an annual range that non-government families understand.
- Mention whether the job is transferable, and where you are posted now.
- Be exact about probation, contract or “selected, joining awaited” status.

What families want to know
When a family reads a government employee’s biodata, they are looking for answers to five questions. Make sure each is on the page:

Writing the post and department
Use the pattern designation, department or office, government, place of posting. Expand short forms that people outside your department may not know.
Central government

Add Group A, B or C, or “Gazetted”, only if it is officially true for your post. Families do ask, and it is easy to verify.
Pay level or a salary range?
Pay in government jobs depends on your pay level, dearness allowance (revised from time to time) and the allowances of your posting city. That makes a single number misleading. You have three options:

State governments, PSUs and banks use their own pay scales and names for grades, so write the grade the way it appears on your pay slip, and add a range. Say “gross” or “in-hand” so the figure is not misread, and update it after a pay revision. Leave out allowances, arrears and pension details. Posting, transfers and central versus state
For many families, transfers matter more than pay — especially if the partner also works. Say plainly where you are now and how often you may move:

These are general patterns — write what your own service rules say. If both partners work in government service, families often ask about posting at the same station; central and many state governments have guidelines that try to allow this where vacancies exist, so one line of openness in your preferences helps.

For defence and central armed police forces, write your rank and service but not your unit or exact location, and follow your service’s guidance on what can be shared. “Field posting” or “peace station” is enough for a family to understand what daily life looks like.
Probation, contract and “selected, joining awaited”
Families take government jobs seriously, so the status of the job must be exact. Mismatches here end conversations quickly.
