How to make a marriage biodata in Canva (step by step)

Canva makes it easy to get a good-looking page, but most people who start from a marriage biodata Canva template hit the same snags: the page is the wrong size to print, Hindi text breaks, or a Pro element blocks the download. Here is the full process, step by step, with the fixes.

Before you open Canva

Keep all your details ready in a note on your phone: birth details, education, job, family, a few lines about yourself, preferences and a parent’s number. Typing directly into a template while hunting for facts is how people end up with “XXXXX” rows left in by mistake. Also keep one recent, well-lit photo in its original quality — not one that has been through WhatsApp, which compresses it.

Step 1: Pick a template and check its size

1. Open Canva on a computer browser or the phone app and search the templates for “marriage biodata” or “biodata”.
2. Open a template you like and check its size. Many biodata templates are A4, but some are made for phone screens or social media posts, which print badly.
3. If you want to print, or want a page that looks like a proper document, use A4: create a design with a custom size of 210 × 297 mm, or search for the A4 document preset.
4. If you have found a template in the wrong size, you can copy its elements onto a blank A4 page and rearrange them.

Pick a design with enough room for text. Templates with large floral corners look lovely in the preview but leave little space once real family and career details go in.

Step 2: Replace the text

Click each text box and type over the placeholder. A few habits save time:

• Keep labels and details aligned. Templates often use separate boxes for the label and the value. When your value is longer, it can overlap the next row. Using a table (from Elements) with its borders made invisible, or one text box with a line per field, keeps rows even.
• Delete rows you do not need instead of leaving placeholder text.
• Use the position and alignment tools to line boxes up rather than dragging them by eye.
• Lock elements you have finished, such as the border and headings, so they do not move while you edit on a phone.

Step 3: Add your photo

1. Go to Uploads and upload your photo.
2. Drag it onto the template’s photo frame. It drops inside the frame and crops to its shape.
3. Double-click the photo (on the phone app, select it and use Crop) to move it inside the frame, so the face is centred and the top of the head is not cut off.

Step 4: Fonts for Hindi, Marathi and other Indian languages

This is where most Canva biodatas go wrong. Many decorative fonts only contain English letters. If you type Hindi into one, the text may switch to another font, show empty boxes, or display matras and joined letters incorrectly.

• Select the text and open the font list. Look for a font made for your script. Noto fonts cover most Indian scripts — for example Noto Sans Devanagari or Noto Sans Tamil — and Hind and Mukta were designed for Devanagari. If one is not in your font list, pick another that shows your script correctly in the preview.
• Type with Gboard or another keyboard set to your language, or type in a notes app and paste.
• Check the tricky letters at full zoom: for Hindi and Marathi, words like क्षेत्र, श्रीमती and विद्यालय, and the ि matra; for Tamil, vowel signs such as in கொ and கோ.
• Keep English labels and Indian-language details in fonts that look similar in weight, or use one Noto family for both.

Step 5: Download a print-ready PDF

1. Click Share, then Download.
2. Choose PDF Print if you will print copies, or PDF Standard for a smaller file to send on WhatsApp.
3. If a Flatten PDF option is shown, ticking it helps the page look the same on every phone.
4. Make sure only the biodata page is selected, not a blank extra page from the template.
5. Open the PDF on your phone and read every line before you send it.
